Exercise is Medicine aims to make physical activity and exercise a standard part of a disease prevention and treatment paradigm in Australia, improving community health and reducing long-term health care costs.

Health and Medical professionals across Australia with a specialty or interest in physical activity are invited to join the new Exercise is Medicine Australia Network in 2016.  EIM Network members will be promoted as critical allies helping patients to reach physical activity goals for the prevention and management of chronic disease.

Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs) hold a four-year university degree and are allied health professionals who specialise in the delivery of exercise for the prevention and management of chronic diseases and injuries. AEPs provide support for clients with conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, mental health problems, cancer, arthritis, pulmonary disease and more. AEPs are eligible to register with Medicare Australia, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and WorkCover and are recognised by most private health insurers.

Accredited Exercise Physiologists are allied health professionals, providing exercise and lifestyle therapies for the prevention and management of chronic disease, injury and disability.

Aussie Men Urged to Take Action To Improve Life Expectancy

Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA) and the Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA) have teamed up to encourage Aussie men to take control of their health as global statistics show men die five years earlier than women.

“Figures show that when Australian men hit the age of 45 they start to move less and less, and this goes on to have a serious impact on their health as they get older. We struggle to understand why this happens but it’s a scary trend,” says Anita Hobson-Powell, CEO of Exercise & Sports Science Australia.
